In brief
The Bhutanese economy is significantly underdeveloped in keeping with the Kingdom's late entry to the modern world. Although there have been considerable socioeconomic changes since the 1960s, the economy is still in its infancy.
Economic structure
Due to Bhutan's late start to modernization & subsequently a careful government approach, the economy remains in a considerably underdeveloped state. 85% of the population derives a living from agriculture & other activities in the traditional sector.
Changes
The thought of cable television & the Internet tamed & harnessed to minuscule Bhutan's humanism is an enchanting dream. But the real question is not simply how well the government succeeds in controlling traditional physical invaders, but whether the Bhutanese & their culture will be strong enough to resist virtual influences.
